Mr. Howard died on Friday. A representative for the reality star said that the cause of death is still under investigation. The representative did not respond to requests for additional comment, but CNN quoted the rep as saying, “We are incredibly saddened and our heartfelt condolences are with Mark’s family and friends.”

Mr. Howard was best known for appearing as a mentor on Below Deck Mediterranean, a show that depicts a crew of yacht captains acting as guests on their employer’s largest vessel. A total of eight episodes were shot for season two of the show; Mr. Howard served as a consultant. The series was filmed in Cyprus, the Mediterranean island nation’s capital city.

The cast of Below Deck Mediterranean has released a joint statement on Mr. Howard’s death. The statement can be read in full below:

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Mark Howard passed away today. Mark was an integral part of the crew. Everyone that worked with him loved him and he will be missed by all. Mark was an extremely kind man and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.

Below Deck Mediterranean star Vivianne Ambrosio shared a photo on her Instagram of Mr. Howard working on the boat.

The show’s host, Jonathan Petroda, wrote, “Just heard about the passing of ‘Mark’- So sad! Such a great guy!!! Rest in peace big guy. We love you!!”
