There was a man who was shot to death after a very brief pursuit in Toronto Wednesday morning. He was later identified as 43-year-old Aavaras Baltas.
“Another senseless act of violence in Toronto,” Liberal Premier John Horgan tweeted. “The province is providing immediate assistance to the victim’s family.”
“Words cannot express our sadness and sorrow over this senseless act,” said deputy Mayor Kristyn Wong-Tam. “Toronto Police will continue to partner with the Office of the Chief Coroner and all other key partners to get answers for the victims’ families.”

People walking along a west-end sidewalk in the eastern Ontario suburb of Vaughan on Wednesday morning were startled when they heard what was described as a gun shots and got down to the ground.
Emergency services spokesman David Hopkinson confirmed a man in his 40s had been shot, and died.
The pursuit came to an end a short time later on a street in the city’s northwest, about 30 minutes northeast of Toronto, when police took down three suspects.
