Mbappe leads PSG over Man United in Champions League

PARIS — Kylian Mbappe scored two goals and set up Neymar for a third to inspire Paris Saint-Germain to a 4-0 rout of Manchester United in the Champions League quarterfinals Wednesday.

United was powerless to stop the French club from sending United crashing out after it lost on away goals in the first leg in Manchester on April 7.

Alexandre Lacazette and Edinson Cavani also found the net for PSG, which finishes its Group B campaign at Juventus on Wednesday.

PSG swept aside the last-16 favorites with a bold start.

Mbappe netted from close range after a wonderful pass from Neymar, who also played a pivotal role in Mbappe’s second.

Playing near the byline, he played the ball back into the danger area, which was supplied by the left foot of Mbappe and his body completely cut out Marcos Rojo’s attempted clearance before clipping the ball over David de Gea and into the empty net.

Mbappe looked dangerous all over the field. In the eighth minute, he forced De Gea into a save with a shot from the left, and also had a cross well-saved by the Spaniard later in the half.

Unbeaten PSG, making its 18th consecutive appearance in the competition, made the game safe in the 70th when Cavani collected a pass from Neymar, sidestepped Jesse Lingard and fired the ball past De Gea from the edge of the area.

Mbappe capped a wonderful first half, which he started on the left, by dribbling around Marcos Rojo to pass the ball to the onrushing Cavani, who finished powerfully from a tight angle.

PSG, which has won its opening six games in all competitions this season, now looks in good shape to reach the quarterfinals for the first time in Europe.
